Back in 2008, I walked off Mahaney Diamond at the University of Maine following an unsuccessful tryout for the baseball team, and into the Memorial Union's radio station, determined to stay involved in baseball. That's where I met Bryan Stackpole, the incoming Sports Director at WMEB-FM 91.9, who brought me on as a radio presenter and producer. He gave me my first role in radio at Maine, and by extension, my first job in sports.
Over the weekend, Stack was back in the booth at Maine, broadcasting a softball doubleheader between Maine and UMass Lowell - with Maine's Imogen Gie starting game one at catcher.
Immy also plays for the Great Britain Women's Senior National Team...where I'm lucky enough to be their Press Officer.
The connections that we make in sports are unexpected, random, and simply fantastic, and moments like this remind me just how lucky I am to be in such a closely-linked community.
