Dear Santa,
I've been a good boy this year. Well, mostly. But we'll gloss over the other stuff. Anyway Santa, I've been thinking about what I want for Christmas this year, and, well, other than a job, I got to thinking - see, there are a couple things that might be useful for other social media folks like me. So I asked them on Twitter:
Working on a blog post & have a question for #smsports/#smsportschat folks - what feature/analytic/etc is on your #socialmedia wish list?
— Chris Knoblock (@cknoblock17) November 12, 2015
Here's what I got for responses:
@saskystewart @cknoblock17 and ability to change between accounts on Insta without logging out.

@cknoblock17 ANYTHING from instagram. Campaign tracking metrics, follower growth, impressions… seriously, i’ll take anything at this point

Santa, Instagram is an incredibly useful social tool - image rich, and easy to interact with. However, while it is certainly user friendly, it's not so friendly to social media coordinators/managers. You see Santa, we need to be able to monitor and schedule our Instagram content, and there isn't a great way to do that yet. Also, multiple logins would make life so much easier - have you ever tried to log in and out of an Instagram account quickly? It's a real hassle. Analytics would be incredibly useful - for now, managers are stuck waiting for people to like a post and hoping that it means more than casual browsing on the toilet. We want to be able to target our Instagram post to the right people and turn our Instagram into a valuable, sponsorable asset - and honestly Santa, it's kinda hard without real numbers and data.
Snapchat
Santa, you've done great things for Snapchat - it's evolved significantly since it's inception and brands are relying on it more and more. However, there are still a couple things we could use.
@cknoblock17: Currently, I have two both for Snapchat & Instagram. Better analytics & the ability to have multiple account w/out logging in.

@cknoblock17 Better Snapchat analytics, targeting influencers.

Analytic and multiple account logins would be incredibly useful for Snapchat, as would a legitimate photo/video uploader - not to be difficult Santa, but I'm pretty tired of watching videos and ads in order to get "coins" to upload videos, and I think everyone else is too. Also, it'd be great if we could use Snapchat from a content management platform - but that can come later.
Ok Santa, I get it - we're getting a bit greedy now. Twitter has been great for us social media types, and it's constantly evolving. There's one thing that we could really use Santa....
@cknoblock17 I wish that we could edit tweets! #FatThumbs

Now, before you tell us that that could lead to problems, we know there would have to be safeguards (like undoing retweets if a tweet is edited, or marking it as an edited tweet), but let's face it, editing tweets would be very useful, especially when tweeting from a small mobile device. It would certainly allow for social media managers a slight margin of error, and we could use a little less stress in our lives.
Analytics
Santa, social media people work very hard - it's one of the few jobs that you can't leave so long as there's electricity in the general area. This makes social media very stressful, so I'd like to ask for some improved analytics. We need to know what works and what doesn't so that we can better spend our time and resources, and reduce our stress levels. One such analytic system would involve locations of views, shares, retweets, etc. as they are spread - nothing too invasive, but enough to make sure that we were targeting the right areas. This could be done with a small bit of code - kind of like a Twitter card. Yes Santa, we'll end up on the NSA's nice list for this, but it'll be worth it.
Native Platforms
Santa, I know I've asked for a lot so far, so this part will be quick - can you please make it possible to schedule photos and videos (and GIFs) on Twitter & Facebook's native platforms? Thanks!
Santa, thanks for taking a look at our list - I know we're asking a lot. Hope you like the cookies and milk and we'll be sure to post some fun branded holiday content - you might make an appearance!
Your friend,
Chris
